Teacher Training

In the area of teacher training, PIEA aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice. In reality, a majority of trainees are already highly educated in the area of language acquisition. They possess the theoretical knowledge required to provide excellent language training, however they lack the opportunity for, and the subsequent understanding of, the practical application of their theoretical knowledge.

PIEA concentrates its focus on outcomes in its training programs. Goals and objectives are presented for all classes, with sufficient opportunities built into the curriculum to allow trainees to reflect upon and communicate their insights and new learning as it applies to their own teaching reality.

PIEA is committed to providing excellence in the area of professional development for teachers of English. Class sizes are limited to twelve participants, thereby ensuring maximum opportunity individual attention. A closed program consists of ten to twelve trainees. Fewer trainee numbers dictate that the program will include outside Canadian trainee participants to ensure that effective classroom dynamics are met in relation to discussion and group work.

No one theory or methodology works in isolation to produce effective language learning. It is through the appropriate integration of various philosophies and techniques that learners are able to successfully acquire communicative competence.

Teachers will be engaged in learning about educational methodology, classroom management, curriculum evaluation and development, special needs, etc.
